Photo Located on Market Street in historic downtown Galveston, The Yoga Haven studio offers daily yoga and movement classes as well as special event workshops. Our retail store offers organic clothing, books, music, gifts and props for yoga and meditation.

The Yoga Haven offers classes for students of all levels. Our dedicated staff of certified instructors provide students with a safe, supportive and inspiring environment to embark and advance on the path of yoga and movement arts for health and well-being. Modifications and variations in practice are suggested to address individual needs.

Studio directors Kathleen DiNatale and Courtney Walker lead the staff of Galveston yogis who have practiced and taught together for many years: Galen Richison, Jim Turner, Lisa Lisinicchia and Erin Glynn teach yoga and substitute regularly. Cathy Stovall, certified in Nia, is a long-time yoga student. Heni, our Belly Dancing instructor, practices yoga and other dance and healing arts.

We truly value our Sangha - our community of practitioners - and welcome all newcomers and visitors to the island to join us.

Reduce stress, increase flexibility and feel great! Sangha Yoga offers a variety of classes perfect for every skill level.

Classes include:

  • Yoga Roots
For students new to Hatha yoga, or as a refresher for returning students, this class provides the foundation for building a yoga practice. Focus is on alignment principles to enhance the benefits, safety and understanding of asanas (postures).
  • Yoga Sangha:
A mixed-level community class, students of all levels are encouraged to deepen their practice—cultivating intelligence, strength, vitality and compassion. Class includes standing poses, twists, forward & backbends, and inversions.
  • Yoga Wings:
A Vinyasa-flow class using surya namaskar (sun salutation) as a thread woven throughout the practice. Standing poses, forward & backbends, twists, balance poses and inversions are sequenced with the vinyasa. This dynamically-paced series builds internal heat, strength, stamina and flexibility.
  • Yoga Waves:
This class draws inspiration from the power and grace of the ocean. Through postures practiced low to the ground, we discover the body’s natural fluidity by riding the wave patterns of breath and movement. The ebb and flow of breath and consciousness is explored in pranayama and meditation.
  • Yin Yoga:
A compliment to dynamic yoga practices, an antidote to a fast-paced lifestyle. Primarily floor work, Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues. Postures are held, muscles are invited to yield, and space is opened in the joints, allowing energy to flow. Focused and reflective, this practice encourages a healthy, supple body and a cool, peaceful mind.
  • Gentle Yoga:
A practice designed for beginners, older students, or those wanting a slower pace. Class includes both dynamic and static postures sequenced to develop strength, balance and flexibility. Meditation and breathing techniques are introduced to support the release of physical and mental tension.
  • Restorative Yoga:
An Iyengar-style class using props to target openings, create stability and enhance alignment. Postures are held for an extended time to increase benefi ts. This practice is challenging, rejuvenative and relaxing. Suitable for all levels.
  • Acro Yoga:
A challenging and playful class with assisted inversions, acrobatics and “flying”. Strength, flexibility and courage are cultivated. Existing yoga practice recommended.
  • Bellydancing:
An ancient art to awaken your goddess nature. Explore the feminine mystique as elegant motions tone muscles, hips and waist.
  • Nia:
A high-energy, low-impact practice, Nia is performed barefoot to diverse and inspiring music - engaging the body, mind and spirit in joyful, expressive movement. Appropriate for all fitness levels. Bring a towel and water.
