Galveston.com Review Just want to eat out? In a hurry? Don’t care about a spectacular view? Then don’t go to Shearn’s. Here is a place for a true dining experience. From the helpful receptionist at the Moody Gardens Hotel who transferred my reservation request to the restaurant, to the maitre ‘d who greeted us upon arrival, and through the entire meal, the service was flawless and gracious. One of our party is wheat intolerant, a fact I mentioned when making the reservation, and our waiter acknowledged this, assisting in the choice of appropriate foods.
The appetizer [“please ask Urs to prepare something light,” was my request] had us all exclaiming how wonderful his choice was: mushroom with caponata, lump crabmeat on endive and a cold boiled shrimp began a most memorable meal. Salads were crisp and generous with the warm [pecan-crusted] goat cheese salad the favorite. Grilled rosemary ciabatta was a nice accompaniment and lovely lime sorbet helped cleanse our palates. Two shrimp entrees [grilled and Dijon] were done to perfection, but the lump crabmeat entrée [sautéed] took top honors. I have never enjoyed such a generous portion of perfectly prepared crabmeat. Vegetables were carrots, a new potato and just-right asparagus.
A crème brulee trio [chocolate, vanilla and raspberry] along with freshly-brewed decaf coffee topped what we all agreed was a wonderful, unique dining experience. We enjoyed La Crema Pinot Noir wine and found the wine list extensive and affordable. Five stars for all: service, view, food and comfort! For any occasion, Shearn’s will surely not disappoint. And, by the way, not an eyebrow was raised at the gentleman with us who wore a tropical short-sleeved shirt! Now, that’s class.
