After many years working as professional chefs in the hotel and restaurant industry, Lisa and Harry Blair opened their own Sunflower Bakery in 1999. The original location at 1527 Church Street was built in 1890 and was one of Galveston many "Corner Stores". The bakery became a favorite East End neighborhood gathering place. In 2003 The Blair’s purchased the historic Consumers Market at 1728 45th street. They opened it as "The Sunflower Café".

Running two busy eateries soon became very difficult and the Blair’s decided to move both the bakery and café into one larger location. In January 2006 "The Sunflower Bakery and Café" opened in the Columbus street market at 512 14th street converting another Historic building into a beautiful retail bakery and full service restaurant.
