Paying to park anywhere is a necessary evil, but in Galveston, you can see first-hand where your money is going! Parking fees collected on the Seawall are used to maintain and add amenities, such as landscaping, lighting and restrooms. Parking fees are collected downtown to ensure that adequate parking is available for people eating, shopping and visiting downtown. Houston’s largest airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), is located approximately 23 miles north of downtown Houston, near the Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway 8 north). Houston’s second largest airport, Hobby Airport (HOU), is located approximately seven miles south of downtown Houston, near I-45/Gulf Freeway, the major highway heading from the City to NASA and Galveston Island.

There are a number of options for transportation to and from both airports, including a variety of cars, limousines, and shuttles, along with ride sharing services such as Uber & Lyft. Details here.

The Galveston Island Visitor Information Center is located inside the Galveston Chamber of Commerce at 2228 Mechanic, Suite 101. The friendly and knowledgeable staff is there to help any guest discover the many treasures of Galveston Island. The center is open 7 days a week and provides tourism information to thousands of visitors each year.
