Cruise Ships Headed To Galveston

Cruise Ships Headed To Galveston

Carnival Vista to arrive on Sunday

Last Updated: April 27, 2021 by Lee Roane | Trip Planning, Cruising

When you see Houston news trucks parked on Harborside Drive, you know something is up at the Port of Galveston.  As it turns out, Carnival is planning to sail two ships to Galveston – possibly this weekend.  Port Director, Roger Rees spoke to one reporter and offered his perspective, “Their intentions are to get ready and stay here, crew up, do some work on the ships, so they’ll be here when it’s time to start cruising.  And, we hope that is quickly.”

In an email to our friends at GalvestonCruises.com on Tuesday, a Carnival representative confirmed that both the Carnival Vista and Carnival Breeze will be returning to the island.

Additional details from the cruise line are scarce, but the truth can be found with a little snooping.  If you are a cruise enthusiast or into any type of ship, you probably are aware of the ship tracker feature on marinetraffic.com.

When I checked before publishing this blog, the Carnival Vista had departed the Bahamas and was between Miami and Havana.  Their forecast puts it arriving in Galveston on Sunday at 3pm.  The Carnival Breeze was still docked in the Bahamas.  Hopefully, the Breeze sets sail soon.

This is all potentially great news that cruising will soon resume from Galveston.  The industry continues to wait for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to lift the ban put in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

If you are on the island Sunday afternoon, head down to Pier 21 and try to catch the arrival of Vista.  If not, you can always watch our live webcams to see the action.
