A Quantum Leap?
The Cruise Lady
Yep! If negotiations go as planned between the Port of Galveston and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, in the not-too-distant future you could be sailing a Quantum Class ship right from the Island – and that would be awesome!
Think about it – no flying to Florida to enjoy cruising this class of “Mega Ships” (est. 6000 passengers + crew of 2000) – obviously a logistical nightmare without a third cruise terminal. And, therein lies the rub!
The port has to determine WHERE to build the new terminal – WHERE to find the financing – and WHERE to provide parking for all those cars! And after all that, it takes time to build the terminal and provide all the access roads to reach it! Which is why Lorraine uses the term: “not-too-distant future.”
Galveston IS the third largest cruise port in the U.S. (we’ll never catch up with Florida) but we do pretty darn well holding our own with three Carnival ships and one Royal Caribbean year-round, and one Disney and an additional Royal Caribbean offering seasonal sailings.
Now, the question? How many of you are interested in sailing a “Mega-ship?”
Lorraine’s not quite sure since she earned her sea legs on the smaller ships (and they will always hold a dear place in her heart) – but – she’s willing to try anything at least once.
So, she says – “Onward and upward” with these negotiations – get ‘em done and get it built!
And they will come!
