The 39th Annual Galveston Island Greek Festival, October 14 and 15, returns to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1824 Ball St.

A celebration of the Hellenic culture, this lively event features Greek food, wines, beer, pastries and commemorative items. All food and pastries are prepared by parishioners some who are well known chefs. Only the freshest ingredients are used in the centuries old recipes that have been passed down through generations. The Greek plate consists of pastitsio, meatballs, dolmades, olives, salad, feta cheese, tiropita, spanakopita, and pita bread for $24. Ala carte include souvlaki and gyros are $14 and  a vegetarian plate is $20. Pastry selections include baklava, kourambiedes, paximadia, koulourakia, and a few ‘cook’s’ choicen pastries. All foods and pastries are available to go.

Enjoy an ice cold Greek FIX beer as well as American favorites, or choose from an  assortment of Greek wines, available by the glass or bottle, all paired to compliment the cuisine.

Returning by popular demand is live Bouzouki by Dimitri Karageorgo,  who will perform throughout both days, along with traditional Greek Dancers. Church tours will be led by Father Stelios Sitaras.  Imported merchandise and food products from Greece will be available for purchase in the Greek market.  An inside and outside event, the festival is rain or shine. Come join us.

There is no admission to attend the festival, however, a donation is greatly appreciated as all event proceeds benefit the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church . Food and drink tickets are sold in $2 increments. cash and credit cards are accepted.

Come for a visit and stay for a while.  Greek Festival  hours are Saturday, 11 am – 7 pm and Sunday, 12 noon – 5 pm. There’s no party like a Greek party. Rain or Shine. Don’t miss it.
