2205 Old Mexico Road, High Island, TX (Directions)
Take TX 124 south to High Island then turn south on Weeks Ave. then turn east on Winnie St. to the sanctuary. A second entrance on Old Mexico Rd. is open February 15 to June 15 and weekends in September and October.
Day passes are $8 and payable to roving admissions volunteer or at red honor boxes located at the entrance. Annual passes are available for $30.
During spring migration, this is a must see location. Vireos, warblers, tanagers, orioles, buntings, and other migrants land here after their journey across the Gulf of Mexico. Their is also a heron rookery in Claybottom Pond on the north side of the sanctuary.
The Winnie Street entrance has interpretive signage and a turnstile for entering.
The Old Mexico Road entrance is open daily February 15 to June 15 and weekends in September and October.
