Brown Pelican

It’s hard not to spot groups of Brown Pelicans flapping and gliding along Galveston’s beaches.  From the Seawall, you can watch as they plunge headfirst into the water to scoop up fish in their pouches.

In the 1970s, they were seriously endangered due to the use of DDT and other pesticides.  Their rebound has been a big success for conservationist.
